I am going to break the lesson into two parts, the first part is the rhythm and the second part will be the fills. That makes this the ryhthm lesson. It is a unique shuffle and the reason that I call it the Detroit Shuffle is because I was thinking about Detroit, the city I love most in the United States, not my favorite city in USA, that would be Chicago (very sorry Detroiters) but I LOVE Detroit more than Chicago. I was nostalgic for all the good times I have spent there, whether out all night long bar hopping or catching a baseball game in the summer on a beautiful Michigan afternoon or playoff game on a freezing Michigan fall night. Driving through the city on my way to Canada. The auto show. I just love the city while thinking about the city this was the sound that came out of my ukulele, so that is way it is called the Detroit Shuffle.

For out of towners, the emphasis is on the first syllable. It is DEtroit, not deTROIT, and yes, that is not the traditional french pronunciation of the word, it is the traditional Detroit pronunciation of the word.
