The core objective of their Bothell kitchen remodel project was simple yet profound: to brighten and tighten the space. This transformation required turning necessity—like a shoddily constructed, failing cabinet door—into a blueprint for efficiency, structural integrity, and modern design.

Architecture: Vaulting Ceilings and Open Concept

The first major steps involved completely redefining the kitchen's architecture. The physical wall separating the kitchen and dining room was removed, establishing a unified, open living area. Crucially, we tackled the low ceiling by vaulting it, immediately and dramatically changing the room’s volume and sense of openness. This step was essential for integrating a previously isolated corner into the home's contemporary design.

Engineering the Ideal Storage Footprint

Drawing inspiration from their time living overseas, the clients prioritized clean lines, functional efficiency, and maximized utility—a true focus on the solutions philosophy. This required meticulous attention to cabinet engineering. Our team eliminated unnecessary filler panels to ensure a maximum storage footprint and incorporated custom solutions like cabinets on the back of the peninsula, adding critical, non-obstructive capacity. Furthermore, sourcing specialized corner storage solutions replaced standard, often underutilized areas for large pans and crockpots.

Technical Creativity: The Invisacook Challenge

A successful remodel demands a capacity for technical creativity. The clients introduced a novel element: the Invisacook, an under-counter induction system that allows the countertop to function as both a cooking surface and a prep space. While this was a new installation for our team, it presented an opportunity to engineer a tailored solution. We collaboratively designed a custom tilt-out control panel that preserves the countertop's clean, uninterrupted surface, resulting in a highly functional, seamless space.

The Hallmark of Custom Detail

The right project manager acts as an advocate for design refinement. In this Bothell kitchen remodel, our manager elevated the project's aesthetic through critical detail work, including designing a waterfall windowsill to integrate the countertop material seamlessly. Structural beams in the adjacent living room were wrapped for a modern, cohesive finish. For ambient lighting, a clever ledge was constructed along the beams for concealed LED strips, adding warmth and sophistication.
