Soundies were the first music videos that played in audio visual jukeboxes. Their heyday started in 1941 and for the next seven years almost two thousand three minute clips were produced. This early one is a gem featuring the jazz giant Duke Ellington. While the music features Ellington's entire band the clip shows only the soloists, besides Duke on the piano, are; Ray Nance (violin), Rex Stewart (trumpet), Ben Webster (tenor sax), Joe “Tricky Sam” Nanton (trombone), Barney Bigard (clarinet), Sonny Greer (drums) and the string bassist Junior Raglin. This was also the first Soundie to feature a African American performer.
I found this video on the Library Of Congress website. There is an extensive post about Soundies and this particular one here.https://blogs.loc.gov/now-see-hear/20...
