RCC ACDA Western Division Conference 2020 Preview Concert

In the spring of 2003 Mary and I received news that she was pregnant with our second child and we were joyfully elated.

To our surprise, not only were we expecting a daughter, but we were going to have two daughters…identical twins! We praised Him for our blessings.
2. Pater Noster - Vytautas Miskinis 2:38
But tragedy struck in October of 2003 at 26 weeks of pregnancy, we lost our daughters to complications from twin to twin transfusion syndrome. It was the worst loss we had experienced. “Why us?” We were overwhelmed with sadness and anger.

Tears consumed our lives. With our hearts full of sorrow and sadness, we began the long and lonely journey through grief.

That year was the first time I had ever been accepted to perform at an ACDA conference. It was with Murrieta Valley High School in Las Vegas, NV. Music helped me cope with the loss and keeping my focus on the performance really helped me deal with the pain and helped me find some peace.

Peace comes to us knowing that we will one day see our daughters.

While I was fortunate to have found solace in music and colleagues to get me through this tragedy with open support and communication, Mary’s journey was lonely and isolated and only time and finding comfort in church healed her pain. She was always impressed with the openness and compassion of my choir world. Even after all these years, preparing for this concert has provided more healing. I hope this performance will help heal those who have suffered the same loss. Research has shown that 10-20 percent of pregnancies end in a miscarriage.
