India and Canada have agreed to restart stalled trade talks, aiming to boost bilateral trade to USD 50 billion by 2030, following a two-year pause after a diplomatic spat. Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Mark Carney met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg to launch negotiations on a high-ambition Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Carney highlighted opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses, while Modi noted growing investment interest from Canadian pension funds and potential cooperation in defence and space sectors. Both sides reaffirmed civil nuclear collaboration and ongoing uranium supply discussions. The restart of talks reflects thawing relations, as Carney seeks to expand trade beyond the U.S. This comes a day after India, Australia, and Canada adopted the trilateral ACITI technology and innovation partnership.
