A massive explosion followed by a fire destroyed the Le Constellation bar in the Swiss ski resort town of Crans-Montana during New Year celebrations. Swiss police believe around 40 people lost their lives and nearly 100 were injured, according to Italy’s Foreign Ministry. More than 100 revellers were reportedly inside the bar when the blast occurred around 1:30 AM.

Authorities say severe burns and heavy smoke have made victim identification extremely challenging. Arson has been ruled out, with investigators focusing on possible technical or structural failures. A strict no-fly zone was imposed to support large-scale rescue and emergency operations, while nearby hospitals were overwhelmed treating critically injured patients. A high-level probe is underway to determine whether pyrotechnics or a gas-related issue triggered the tragic explosion.
