The much-anticipated compact hatchback, the Seagull, was eventually put on sale last week by BYD, making the situation in China more fascinating. BYD has reduced the price of the Seagull from what was first stated during pre-sales, when the Seagull received 10,000 orders in just one day! The official price of the Seagull was 73,800 yuan ($10,690). It's remarkable that a small hatchback with a 30.8 kWh battery costs little under $11,000. The Seagull is part of the Ocean series, which also includes the Dolphin and the Seal, and is built on BYD's e-platform 3.0. The Seagull features a single electric motor that produces 135 Nm of torque and 75 horsepower (55 kW) of power. Front-wheel drive is used. It can go from 0 to 50 km/h in 4.9 seconds and has a peak speed of 130 km/h. Ranges of 305 km and 405 km (CLTC) are provided by the two Blade battery choices of 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh, respectively. The Seagull includes quick charging, which charges the battery to 80% in 30 minutes. I must say, for the price, it looks extremely excellent.
But when you contrast it with an identical brand-new ICE car, it becomes even better. The starting price for the 2023 Honda Fit 1.5L ICE is 89,800 yuan ($12,500). The BYD Seagull's interior resembles that of the Dolphin and Seal, particularly the former. Thanks to a simple design that prioritises space and aesthetics in comparison to ordinary city automobiles, the dashboard appears to be in a class by itself.
The Seagull has quilted seat coverings and a dual-tone colour scheme. The use of the colour blue in specific places of the dashboard, centre console, and door panels instantly connects the cabin with the ocean-themed design of the vehicle and gives it a more upscale appearance than other vehicles in this class.
