The Ford line of cars was updated in 1937 with one major change — the introduction of an entry-level 136 CID (2.2 L) V8 in addition to the popular 221 CID (3.6 L) flathead V8.
On today's Monster Hobbies Model Car Garage we will be looking at the 1937 Ford Coupe Street Rod Model Kit By Revell. This is a model car unboxing video.
The model was a refresh of its predecessor, the Model 48 (itself based on the Model 40A), and was the company's main product. At the start of production, it cost $850. The Ford Line bore several model numbers during this period: For domestic 1937 production in the United States Ford Model Numbers for 85 hp V-8 equipped cars was Model 78 and 60 hp V-8 cars was Model 74.
The 1937 Ford featured a more rounded look with fine horizontal bars in the convex front and hood-side grilles. The front grille was V-shaped, rather than following the fenders into a pentagon shape, as on the 1936 model. Faired-in headlights were a major modernization found on both the Standard and DeLuxe trim versions, though much of the rest of the design was shared between Ford's two lines. A larger water pump was used to help aid in cooling. 'Slantback' sedans gained a rear trunk door, though space was limited, and 'Trunkback' versions continued gaining sales. The station wagon had seating for eight passengers. A 4-door "convertible sedan" with roll up windows was offered in small numbers in the DeLuxe series. Also, new seats were used.
Today's Monster Hobbies Model Car Garage - 1937 Ford Coupe Street Rod Model Car By Revell is the first issue release that came out in 2000, Revell Kit No. 85-2598, but shares many components with the 1937 Ford Sedan Street Rod Model Car By Monogram first introduced in 1987.
The 1937 Ford Coupe Street Rod Model Kit By Revell lists the car as being 1/24th scale.
The instruction sheet and parts included in this kit are designed to build a custom Revell 1937 Ford Coupe Street Rod. There is no option to build this great car as a stock model kit and the scale limits the choices of swapping out the custom parts with factory correct parts from other model kit manufacturers, such as AMT or the later Revell 1937 Ford Panel Van and Pickup Truck kits also reviewed on this channel.
The first building step is the engine. I do believe this is a Big Block 427 Chevrolet engine, but I could be wrong. This consists of the 16 piece left and right hand engine block with Automatic transmission and timing cover as 2 pieces, a fan, belt with alternator, cylinder heads, chrome valve covers, oil filter, starter motor, and radiator hoses, intake manifold, air cleaner and various other components.
The 1937 Ford Coupe Street Rod Model Kit By Revell includes a detailed frame with a front Mustang IFS system which was popular in the 1980's and 1990's. This includes the special independent front wheel axles, steering linkages and disc brakes. Out back, a four piece Corvette independent rear axle and brake drums complete the suspension package.
The fenders include a build option of either smooth or ribbed running boards. The inner glass, door panels, dashboard with steering wheel and rear seat are glued to the inside of the body while the front bucket style bench seat is glued to the fender floor boards which must be glued to the body shell. The hood does open to display the engine block and is notorious in this kit (as well as in the sedan) as being the toughest piece to align with the body and fenders. The nicest feature of the engine and hood is the chrome vertical grill shell.
Inner fender splash panels, bumpers, horns, exhaust hoses, windshield frame, tail lights and many other small features makes up the remainder of this build.
Overall, this model kit is easy to build and will look great on your model kit shelf or in your model car garage.
