Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we have a 2023 Ford Transit T250 van and we're gonna be taking a look at, and I'm gonna show you how to put the CURT 2" Class IV hitch receiver on. Adding a hitch receiver to the back of your Transit van is gonna allow you to do a couple different things. You can use it for cargo carriers or bike racks. A lot of people will do that if they are using this as a camper van. For this particular one, this is a work van.

This guy's a private contractor, so what he does is he needs to be able to pull a trailer. So that's why we put the hitch on. If you plan on pulling a trailer, I would highly recommend putting your wiring on while you're doing this. If you're gonna be underneath your vehicle, you can get both of 'em done at the same time. Our hitch pin hole is going to be a 5/8" hitch pin hole, which which will accept a hitch pin and clip like this one here.

The hitch does not come with one, so you will have to pick one up separate on our website. For our safety chain loops, our safety chain loops are gonna be a plate style. They fit the safety chains, the S-hook style pretty easily. The clevis style fits in there too. It's a little bit tighter, but these are also pretty big clevis style, but just know that they are gonna be able to accommodate those different types.

Now it's for measurements so you know how it's gonna fit on your van. We are sitting on top of an 8" tall drive on lift here, so we'll have to take that out. here, so we'll have to take that out. of the receiver tube here, it says 21-3/4", so that'll be 13-3/4". That should be high enough off the ground you don't have to worry about anything dragging or scraping when you have an accessory in here.

From the center of the hitchpin hole to the outermost part of our bumper, it's gonna be about 4-1/2". That measurement you want to use when looking into accessories like a cargo carrier or a bike rack. You can look on our website. We've got some measurements to compare that with that 4-1/4" look on there. It'll show you the closest part of the rack to the center of the hitchpin hole on the accessory, which will line right up with this hitchpin hole. That'll tell you whether or not that accessory will fit on the back of your van. Now when it comes to the weight capacities of this particular hitch, you're gonna have a max tongue weight capacity of 800 pounds and a max gross trailer weight capacity of 8,000 pounds. That is the trailer plus the load included. If you plan on using this with weight distribution, a lot of people will use this to pull a work trailer that they'd like to put weight distribution on. Or maybe you're wanting to pull a small camper with this. If you have a larger family that fits on the inside of the van, that will increase the weight capacity from 800 pounds to a thousand pounds of tongue weight and from 8,000 pounds to 10,000 pounds when you're using weight distribution. Now as far as the installation goes, this install's really not too bad. You will have to drill a couple of holes back here on the back of our frame rail. We'll walk you through that whole part in the installation. You should have no issues getting it installed. If you don't feel like doing this install yourself or you don't think you can do it by the end of this video, feel free to check our dealer locator out and check out a dealer nearest you that can get this install done for you. But with that being said, let's go ahead and take a look at that. To begin our installation, you'll want to drop your spare tire to get it out of the way 'cause we have some bolts that are in the side of our frame rails and we need to get to, and that spare tire is covering those up. What we're gonna start with is take a 15 millimeter socket and take the two screws or two bolts that are holding our tow loop in place. (tool buzzes) Next, those two bolts on the side of each frame rail that I was talking about earlier, taking that spare tire down gives you full access to these. We'll take that same 15 millimeter socket and get these off. Now back here towards the end of our frame on our driver's side, there's gonna be a small hole. It's like a 1/16th inch hole. We're gonna take a drill bit, step it up to, all the way up to 9/16" so we can drop a piece of hardware down through it. (tool buzzes) Now because we've
