I went into Sentimental Value with some hesitation. I don’t traditionally watch a lot of foreign films, and I honestly wasn’t sure this one would click with me. I couldn’t have been more wrong—in the best way possible.
This film is simply beautiful. Beautifully acted, written, and filmed, it’s the kind of quiet, emotionally rich story that lingers long after the credits roll. Renate Reinsve delivers a stunning performance, and the script-reading scene is one of the most moving moments I’ve seen all year. Stellan Skarsgård is phenomenal as well, bringing so much depth and emotional weight to his role with remarkable subtlety.
This is a movie that invites reflection—on what we value, what we leave unsaid, and the importance of truly communicating with the people in our lives. I’m genuinely grateful I gave this film a chance.
