7th Grade Math 3.3d, Finding the Difference Between Two Numbers on a Number Line

Описание: The distance between two values a and b on a number line is represented by the absolute value of the difference of a and b. Distance between a and b = |a - b| or |b - a|. It doesn't matter which order we write them in as absolute value. We show you how we can find the distance between two numbers by finding the difference of their absolute values, whether both values are positive, both values are negative, or if one value is negative. We can count the units between the points on the number line, but by knowing how to find the absolute value of their difference, we'll be able to find the distance if the rational numbers are too difficult to graph on a number line. We show several ways to write an absolute value expression that will give us the same distance.
