"Two male manatees going back in the wild aren't going to matter a whole lot in terms of conservation or population status. But, if we can take those same two male manatees and study carefully attributes that are almost impossible to study in the wild, we can learn things that again, if we use the information properly, can make a conservation difference."

"But they still seem to navigate very well. They live in turbid waterways, so compounding that lack of, that poor sense of vision, something else is going on, allowing them to navigate and deftly manoeuvre through these shallow, complex environments. So, what we think those hairs are doing is allowing them to feel their way through the water."

"The sphere is vibrating at a certain frequency, so if we're looking at, say 50 Hertz, the sphere is vibrating 50 cycles per second. This is then creating a pressure wave that is directed at the animal. We're doing it fairly close to give the animal the best chance of success."
