In a dramatic escalation of warnings from Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that radioactive fallout from attacks on Iran's Bushehr nuclear facility could threaten the survival of populations across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) capitals.
Writing on social media, Araghchi pointed out what he called a double standard — noting that the international community expressed serious alarm over military activity near Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, yet the Bushehr plant in Iran has now reportedly been struck four times by Israel and the US without similar global outcry.
Critically, neither the United States nor Israel has officially confirmed their involvement in the reported strikes on Bushehr.
Araghchi also highlighted attacks on Iran's petrochemical infrastructure, suggesting these strikes reflect broader strategic objectives beyond military targets alone.
The statement raises urgent questions about nuclear safety in an active conflict zone, and the potential humanitarian and environmental consequences for millions of people living across the Gulf region.
