This rice recipe is perfect for special occasions. You will 'wow' everyone with it's fragrance and taste! Do give it a try.
Ingredients:
Long-grain Basmati rice or any high-quality long-grain rice
Water - 1 Cup
Whole spices - Cardamom, Cumin, Cinnamon, Cloves, Bayleaf
Ginger Garlic Paste - 2 Teaspoon
Salt - 1 Teaspoon
Boiled Water
Method:
Rinse the Rice: Start by rinsing the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch from the rice, preventing it from becoming sticky.
Soaking: Soak the rice in cold water for 30 minutes to an hour. This step helps the rice grains absorb water evenly, leading to better cooking.
Proper Water-to-Rice Ratio: Use the right ratio of water to rice. Typically, for most long-grain rice varieties, the ratio is 1:2, meaning 1 cup of rice requires 2 cups of water. Adjust this ratio based on your rice variety and personal preference. I personally cook rice the same way that I cook Pasta.
Bring to a Boil: In a pot, bring the measured water to a boil.
Add the ingredients: Add a teaspoon of salt and the whole spices as shown in the video. Add ginger garlic paste and oil. The fragrance of the spices and all the ingredients will elevate your senses.
Add the Rice: Drain the soaked rice and add it to the boiling water. Gently stir to distribute the rice evenly.
Simmer: Reduce the heat to the lowest setting, and let the rice simmer for 10-15 mins or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender. You can test it by checking the rice with your fingers. Cooking time may vary based on the rice variety and your stove's heat level. If you want to use the rice for making Biryani, cook until they are 70% done.
Serve your perfectly cooked rice with separated grains is now ready to be served alongside your favourite dishes.
Tips:
Choosing high-quality long-grain rice, such as Basmati, can greatly contribute to achieving separated grains.
If you're not soaking the rice, consider using slightly less water than the 1:2 ratio to account for the absence of excess moisture from soaking.
A heavy-bottomed pot.
Avoid over-stirring the rice, as this can break the grains and lead to a mushy texture.
With attention to these details and a bit of practice, you'll be able to consistently achieve perfectly cooked rice with each grain beautifully separated.
