Using Wool Combs to Make Custom Colored Combed Top

Описание: Sometimes, I want a custom color combed top that I just don't have available, but I do have the ingredients to create. The degree of blending can be varied depending on how much combing is done. If I had combed less, there would be less blending, more combing results in more blending.

Wool combs can also be used to comb, separate, and prepare fibers that are unprocessed such as mohair, pygora, shetland wool, and other wools. Although the combing process is similar when processing fibers like these that I mentioned, it isn't exactly the same, and may vary a little more if the fibers are dual-coated such as pygora and primitive breed wools like icelandic or some shetland. When working with dual-coated fibers, you may be wanting to separate the dual coats instead of blending. Wool combs can be used in this manner also. In this video, I talk about allowing the combs to get closer together to allow for a more thorough blending. When using wool combs to separate a dual-coated fiber, it is important to only pick up the tips and do not allow the combs to get closer together. The shorter fibers will remain on the second comb while the longer fibers will be picked up on the first comb resulting in the desired separation of the dual coats. Since that was not the desired result in this case, I allowed the combs to get closer together and allowed the fibers to continue to blend thoroughly throughout.
