Описание: Scrap Bin Crossbow. IRON BEECH ELM Can I build a crossbow from scrap? The Roll Nut. Pt 5. The roll nut is a cylindrical component that holds the bow's string at full draw. The string is locked at the draw by a lever - the tickler or trigger - which prevents the nut from rotating. When the tickler is released, the roll nut spins around its shaft or fixing releasing the string which then drives the bolt . The nut is fixed in place either by a metal spindle or bindings that pass through its centre, and the challenge of building this type of crossbow is largely centred upon the roll nut, its socket and the correct engagement of the tickler with the nut. This video shows how I work with hand and simple power tools to fabricate a roll nut from Delrin (a synthetic material), create a socket in which the nut can rotate and then insert this and the tickler into the tiller of the bow. These are simple engineering tasks but much removed from the skills required to build a longbow and represent quite a challenge.

I have made only one simple, low power crossbow - very loosely based on the Skane artefact. This my second crossbow will be a prototype for a better build some time in the future. This is project just for learning and fun. Can I build it from odds and ends I find lying around in the shed and learn from the process?
