In this video we will take you to the beautiful North Sikkim. We started from Gangtok after breakfast and started our journey towards Lachen. Enroute we stopped at Seven Sister Waterfalls. As the name suggests, the seven different waterfalls harmoniously arranged sideways on a wide rugged cliff seem distinct if watched from a distance. The picturesque beauty of the fall makes it tourist’s stopping point to relax and rejuvenate. We continued our journey towards Chungthang, the place from where the road bifurcates towards Lachen and Lachung. From Mangan, you can actually see the River Teesta flowing side by side all the way up to Chungthang. Enroute we also visited Nanak Lama Gurudwara. Anyone can visit the Gurudwara and refresh themselves with free tea and food (Langar). Guru Nanak dev ji visited this place while coming back from Tibbet during their 4th Udasi (Yatra). This place was a barren land. People of this village requested Guru Nanak to do something for the people of this village as there is no food to eat. Guru Nanak threw a hand full of paddy in that place. Now chungthang is the only place in surrounding areas where paddy grows. There is a "Bhai Ji" available at Gurudwara who can explain the whole history of the Gurudwara in details. Saw one more waterfall and reached Lachen. We called it a day.
Next day we started at around 6.30 AM from Lachen and headed towards Gurudongmar Lake which is probably the most amazing lake on this planet. Enroute we visited Kala Patthar. Kalapatthar, as the name implies, means “Black Stone ” in local lingo as the cliffs of the snow-clad mountain are black which add to the unique beauty of the place. With an elevation of 14,850 feet, it is an ideal place for those who want to experience the thrill of playing with the snow, since it remains snow- covered for most of the year.Next it was time to visit Gurudongmar Lake. Undoubtedly it is the most beautiful lake in North Sikkim but what makes it even more unique is its religious significance. This lake is worshipped by people from most of the religions in India including Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs. This lake is located at an altitude of 17,000 ft and it takes nearly about 3 hrs to reach here from Lachen. It is in close proximity to the Indo-Tibet border (just a few kilometres away from this lake). Gurudongmar Lake is also one of the major sources of the river Teesta that flows all across Sikkim and in West Bengal too. The lake remains frozen during the winter. Hence, the best time to visit Gurudongmar Lake is between March and June. If you can bear extreme cold weather, then winter is also a good time to visit this lake. It is recommended not to spend more than 30 minutes at the lake. Please understand that Gurudongmar Lake is at a high altitude. You should take necessary precautions. You can be likely hit by AMS if you overexert yourself. So reach early and do not stay there for long.
