Nematodes are also known as roundworms and they inhabitant every niche this planet has to offer. There are supposedly 60 billion living nematodes for every single human alive on our planet. It's been said that if everything from Earth was removed except nematodes, there would still be a ghostly outline of all that existed before. This is because nematodes are EVERYWHERE. Nematodes and round worms are most well known for the diseases that they cause. Nematodes cause heartworm disease in animals like dogs and cats. Some nematodes are free-living and can be found in soil, water, etc. Other nematodes are parasites that live in or on other organisms. Just about every known organism has the potential to host nematode parasites! We hope you learn some facts you didn't know as we discuss these roundworm facts and information here on Animal Fact Files.
