Greetings in this Google Drive tutorial we shall be looking at how to download view only and protected Google Doc. This tutorial is great for if you have view only access to a Google Doc file but want to download the Google doc so you have a local copy of that Google doc document.

This Google Doc tutorial will show you how to download a view only Google doc from Google Drive. This is a version of the Google Doc that will have all the contents of the google document file but will not be a docx file. This will be a html file. The first step is to open up the Google doc file in your web browser. The next step is to edit the url. Replace the ending that has edit followed by some other characters with the following:

mobilebasic

It doesn't matter what doc of the google Doc file you are viewing when you edit the url.

Once you have edited the url, press the enter key. Now you will be taken to a html present view of the Google doc file. You can right click on the screen and save the webpage as a html file.

That is all you need to do. When you open up the html file for the Google doc you downloaded, you can see all the Doc in that html present view. You can't select anything in this downloaded copy or edit it, but this is a great way to make a local copy of a view only protected Google doc.

Doing this method of downloading a view only Google Drive Google doc document will not notify the creator of the document or the person who shared it or anyone that you have downloaded the view only file.
