Sergio Osmeña was inaugurated as the second President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines on August 1, 1944 upon the death of President Manuel L. Quezon. The oath of office was administered by Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court Robert H. Jackson in Washington, D.C., United States.
