40 years ago tonight, the Central cake made its debut as a continuity ident! (Though it had been seen for a few weeks beforehand in trailers promoting the new season).
The first Central cake identifier seen was about 30 minutes before this recording, introducing the first episode of Granada’s soap Albion Market. It can be seen here:
