Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged that removing Mahatma Gandhi’s name reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hostility to Gandhian ideals and the rights of the poor, calling MGNREGA a living embodiment of Ram Swaraj.

The protests have intensified after a Delhi court declined to take cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate’s prosecution complaint in the National Herald case. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge termed the development a vindication and accused the BJP of misusing central agencies, while the BJP defended the bill as a substantive reform and dismissed Congress’s allegations as political theatrics.
