Did I enjoy Renegades? Yes (minus that boss in the exotic mission, fucking cunt)
More than Edge of Fate? Yes
Is it worthy of being called a campaign? No. It feels like a deluxe Episode in its story and mission structure. There’s a section in the first half where you finish a mission, go to Drifter's ship to receive a call, then fly to the Cantina to receive a call. Why couldn’t both be done in one place?
Then you’ve got me playing the seasonal activity, which is no different from how Episodes or Seasons are done, making me think of this more like an Episode or Season.
The actual missions that aren’t seasonal activities or the exotic mission were really fun, especially the last one. I loved the mix of vehicles and on-foot gameplay. It reminded me of the Halo campaigns.
Story was good. I liked Edge of Fate’s story a lot, so I wasn’t expecting worse. Bael and Lume were fine, but I wanted more of them as characters. Bael got some development and is in an interesting spot going forward, but Lume felt wasted.
I continue to enjoy Lodi and how he interacts in this world. Drifter has always been a character I like, so focusing on him was great. I thought I wouldn’t like Aunor but I ended up enjoying her. Blue was perfect, I love when she first speaks. Other characters jumping in like Eido, Eris, and Zavala keeps the world feeling alive.
Now the Star Wars collab. Previous Destiny collabs in cosmetics are fine. Most of them work well with Destiny’s style and identity. This one did not. Not once in either ViDoc did Bungie convince me it would be more than Star Wars aesthetics and moments. I get it, you took inspiration from Star Wars, but I’ve played enough Destiny to know you’re inspired by pop culture. I don’t need a direct expansion on one of your biggest influences. There was a 100% Destiny story here that didn’t need Star Wars nods and visuals.
The Eververse cosmetics are just Star Wars characters with no attempt to fit them into Destiny’s style. I know other collabs don’t always fit, but I don’t want the literal Mandalorian or Darth Vader running around with a lightsaber.
Some things I did enjoy about the collab. The Cantina with all the gangs is fun. The “criminal underworld” vibe works. The blaster weapon archetype is a nice addition. More unique weapons are always a plus.
To wrap this up. I enjoyed Renegades. The story was interesting, I liked the focus on The Drifter and Aunor, and the missions are fun. The post-game seems like it will have plenty to do. I don’t like the Star Wars collab, but it’s not bad enough to ruin the expansion. I hope they stick to cosmetic collabs in the future.
Extras I forgot to mention;
This was the easiest legendary campaign I've played, the only 'difficult' mission was the final boss in the exotic mission (which isn't even legendary) due melting me as I fly up to do the stupid mechanic.
Another thing to make me think this was an Episode.. Ghost did not speak which usually only happens in Episodes or Seasons, just something to point out.
Повторяем попытку...
