A tribute to the legendary Australian Bush Balladeers and poets. This video celebrates the words and worlds of Banjo Paterson, Henry Lawson, Dorothea Mackellar, Mary Gilmore, and John Quinn. Their poetry and stories captured the spirit of the Australian outback, the romance of the drovers, the promise of the land, and the lives of the first pioneers. Relive the timeless tales of the bush, the charm of their rhyme, and the precious gems found within their books, which continue to stir our hearts.
Lyrics (c) Marc Glasby
When we look back, at the days long gone by
are we looking for all that we've lost?
Are the things that we seek, somehow lost to the eye?
Are we poorer for counting the cost?
In the eyes of the settlers we see this great land
and we feel the great promise she had,
When we see how the cities have covered the sand
does it make us feel angry or sad?
When we hear of the tales of the drovers and such,
Can we ever know just how things were?
When the outback was distant but mattered so much,
and when travel meant horses and spurs
So here's to The Banjo and Lawson
to Mackellar and Gilmore and Quinn,
to the people who wrote all those words in our hearts
to their books and the gems found within
The bards tell us tales of the bush and its men,
who they met as they travelled about,
They stir in our hearts all the romance again,
of a time that seemed free from all doubt
In the writings of men who were there at the time,
we can live and re-live the old days,
In the pulse of their meter, the charm of their rhyme,
we can touch on their lives and their ways
So here's to the poets, the Bush Balladeers,
who gave us these treasures to hold,
Who told us the tales of the first pioneers,
with words much more precious than gold
So here's to The Banjo and Lawson
to Mackellar and Gilmore and Quinn,
to the people who wrote all those words in our hearts
to their books and the gems found within

AI music is controversial as is has the possibility of putting a lot of people in the music industry out of work BUT it also democratises music. I have zero musical talent. I can’t write music and I can’t sing but I do write lyrics that I believe are good enough to be made into songs.
So far this has only happened to two on my ballads and I have so many more that I think will make good songs.
Enter AI. I now have the opportunity to turn my words into songs and to share them with the world at large. Although my ballads have been shared for many years, people are just not interested in reading them. Songs are so much easier to digest but apart from two that were turned into songs, nobody ever bothered.
Since no one was interested in converting my ballads to music, I am not putting anyone out of work by pursuing this.
The lyrics (apart from one collaboration with Graham Rodgers for the song The Eagle) are all my own original work. The music and vocals are AI.
Should any recording artist want to take one of my songs and release it, I would be more than happy to speak with them about it.
