This is the 25th Ice Hockey Teddy Bear Toss I have attended in my lifetime, at the AHL game February 22, 2025 between the visiting Toronto Marlies and the Rochester Americans.
The game was scoreless for the entirety of regulation and overtime. In the shootout that followed, neither team could score until #91 Konsta Helenius broke the deadlock. When he did, fans started throwing their plush toys onto the ice even though the PA announcer had told them not to. When the toss had been stopped and the toys were moved out of the way, Toronto got a chance to tie the shootout and send it to another round. Toronto failed to score and the fans could throw the rest of the toys on the ice. Rochester won the game 1-0 in a shootout.
