I guess Honda added this feature as a safety precaution and maybe I don't understand their reasoning when I think an outboard that only idles in reverse is unsafe.
So I am taking matters into my own hands and removing their safety lock-out which blocks throttle operation in both neutral and reverse.
I trust myself to idle the engine before shifting into or out of gears...after all, that how I operated all the other dozens of outboards I've owned over the years.
If you have another explanation as to why they did this, please let me know in the comments!
