How much volume drop is there with split coils of a humbucker? I've read and heard a lot of crazy talk about how much the volume drops when you have a coil cut, sometimes incorrectly refered to as a coil tap, switch on a guitar. 50%, 25%? All sorts of crazy things.
So.. I decided to actually get out the SPL meter and test to see the dB range between Series, Single Coil and Parallel wiring on a guitar. I ran through two different guitars, with three different pickups and 32 total tests to see once and for all....
How much volume is lost with Split Coils.
