n the Java version , an iron golem appears from gossip at a villager gathering place .
The villager giving the gossip must have a profession (must not be a village idiot), have slept in the last 24,000 ticks , have worked on their task block in the last 36,000 ticks, chatting five times about the need for an iron golem, and being surrounded by four other villagers within 80 blocks.
However, since the 20w19a snapshot, the villager behind the gossip no longer needs to have worked, or even have a profession, for an iron golem to appear.
The iron golem then has a chance to spawn in a 16 × 13 × 16 block area centered on the location of the villager who spread the gossip.
Golems can spawn in transparent blocks ( stairs , rugs, and tiles ) as long as there are solid blocks under their feet.
