Marcus is Deaf. He speaks when it's practical. He reads people with the efficiency of someone who has spent a lifetime paying close attention to everything that isn't words. He's been paired with nervous beginners before. He knows the look.
But Elena is different in a way he doesn't immediately have a sign for.
Over weeks of Wednesday evenings — and then extra sessions neither of them officially scheduled — he teaches her with his hands on hers. She learns family and sister and I hear you.
