Windows Search indexing significantly speeds up file searches and improves the accuracy of results by creating a catalog of your files. However, it consumes system resources (disk space and processing power), which can cause performance issues, especially on older hardware. In some cases that you want to disable search indexing from running, here’s how to do it.
Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard.
Type services.msc into the Run dialog box and click OK or press Enter.
In the Services window, scroll down the list to find the Windows Search service.
Right-click and select Properties from the context menu.
In the "Startup type" dropdown menu under the general tab, select Disabled.
Click the Stop button to stop the service from running immediately.
Click Apply and then OK to save the changes.
You can close the Services window, and search indexing will no longer run on your PC as shown here on the indexing option window.
And to enable it, just go back to services.msc, locate windows search, go to properties, on the general tab, under the startup type, select automatic and press apply and ok. This will now enable windows search indexing.
