The '58 Corvette will always be considered one of the more unusual, but most collectable of the first generation cars. There were three distinct bodies built from '53-'62. The first design ('53-'55) being a true Roadster. With the second design ('56-'57), Corvette became a bit more user friendly with the addition of much needed roll up windows. But with the final design '58-'62, the car finally became a Corvette you could drive on a regular basis! Mostly because the car was bigger. And as a result, the interior was more accommodating to adults over 5'6"! Which brings us to the '58. Besides being dimensionally larger, the '58 grew two extra headlights, seat belts became standard equipment, a new dash and gauges were installed and hp was up in the top fuel injected engine. But, what made the '58 really stand apart was the "Gingerbread", namely the simulated louvered hood and the chrome trunk spears. The '50's were the decade of excess when it came to American car design. Lots of chrome, lots of fins, lots of rocket hood armaments. The Corvette barely escaped with its dignity intact, but somehow it did. As a result of the one year only styling cues, the ’58 has become one of the most coveted of the C-1’s and a “must have” for most serious Corvette collectors.

What makes the ’58 presented here a bit unusual is the fact that it was purchased new by the previous owner in ’57! Yep, this is a one owner, CA car! We just acquired it from his widow. The correct 283/290hp fuel injected engine is sitting under the hood, but the original 3-spd manual has since been replaced with a 4-spd unit. However, the 3-spd can be included in the sale if desired. A frame-on restoration was completed about 10 years ago at which time, it was repainted in a red closer to Roman than Signet (the original color) and a new interior was installed along with an updated radio (the original is included) and radial tires to help it go down the road straight! This is one of the nicest running and driving fuelies we’ve had in quite a while! It starts up instantly, idles with that familiar lope and has excellent power and response.
