Hybrid battery testing on a pair of 2nd Gen 2008 Prius's

Описание: How to test the High Voltage Battery (HV Battery). Testing voltage leaks/isolation testing of the HV Battery. This test is comparing two Hybrid batteries for a voltage leak causing a P0AA6 sub codes 526 and 612 with a known good and a confirmed bad causing all the waring lights on the dash for a 2008 Prius. This caused this hybrid car to not move or turn on the "Ready" indicator on the dash to not turn on and the vehicle can only go into nuetral. This also shows how to move a hybrid Toyota Prius with an Isolation fault.

Notice: a hybrid vehicle cannot be towed with the front axle wheels rotating. This causes electricity into the MG1&2 units with nowhere to go. This will destroy the units and may cause a fire but at the minimum excessive heat and damage to the drive units. DO NOT TOW WITH THE FRONT WHEELS ROTATING!

Notice: The AC system requires specific oil and CANNOT be charged with a "quick charge" bottle from the auto parts store. This will damage the ENTIRE system and the AC compressor, condenser, Evaporator all have to be replaced to prevent the HV power leaking and causing the car not to move.

Note: Some of the humor is pretty dark in this video, I like to keep the mood lighthearted and fun but it is seriously important, CRITICAL, that you follow all the safety guidelines so you do not injure yourselves or even die.

If you do not feel comfortable working on these systems DO NOT work on this stuff until you are ready that you can respect how dangerous this can be.

If you are trying to save money working on your car yourself you are welcome to do so and I welcome you to it but these systems should not be worked on with carelessness and without proper safety measures. You can save money with labor but tools cost a lot of money and safety equipment is part of the cost of working on these systems and cannot be skipped. Your money saved is worthless if you can't be alive to spend it. Confidence is an enemy when dealing with safety and needs to be checked at the door. Double check what steps you are doing, guessing is not an option here. You were wrong one second and the next you're waking up in a hospital bed. Be careful!

Tips: We spend a lot of money and time to work on your cars the best way we can. If you take your hybrid to a shop make sure they have some knowledge about this stuff before they work on it. Testing High Voltage systems with incorrect test equipment can damage the electronics and cause more problems than what the car came in for. Ask them to verify they have a set of Hybrid safe gloves and if anything is special about your air conditioning because it's a hybrid. Your AC system is powered by the High Voltage system on the car. Because of this special oil needs to be used on the air conditioning system to prevent the electricity conducting through the oil into the Electric Compressor Housing and causing a different Hybrid battery voltage system isolation fault. Make sure they have a good understanding at minimum. Certifications are always acceptable but only the technician with the proper experience or training should work on it. Any Hybrid Certifications through any dealership or aftermarket courses are acceptable. This meets the minimum requirements that the technician is at least aware of what they're doing or getting into. An L3 ASE certification is basically the Gold standard (or only standard) that recognizes this person is very knowledgeable about these systems.
