Описание: On this day in 1929, Roger Bannister who ran the first sub-4-minute mile was born. Here's Movietone's report on "The Miracle Mile" when Bannister competed for the first time against the only other man to have broken the 4-minute barrier at that time, John Landy.

Dramatic pictures of Roger Bannister's great triumph and Jim Peters heroic effort. His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh was at the stadium in Vancouver when the "Miracle" Mile" was run. The two great "under-four minute" milers, Bannister and Landy fought out perhaps the greatest mile race ever seen. Bannister's final burst was too much for Landy, but both runners' times were under four minutes. There was a dramatic end to the Marathon race, as Jim Peters staggered into the arena. Completely exhausted, he struggled gamely to reach the finishing line, but after a heroic effort, he failed by 200 yards.
