The Kia K4 replaces the Kia Forte, and the new car is wider and longer, offers more space, and what’s clearly visible, features new design language, which is very modern, very in your eyes and as a result, very controversial.

Also new is the platform that the K4 sits on - it uses Hyundai and Kia’s global architecture, shared with cars like the Hyundai Elantra or the Kia Niro, and features strut front suspension and a torsion beam in the back, however, the GT Line models get a multilink setup for better handling and ride comfort.

As of trims, we start with the base, LX for $23,000, next up is LXS, and then we got the EX, that we’re testing today for about $25,000. There are also more “sporty” offerings, the GT-Line and the GT-Line Turbo, with the last one costing around $32,000 fully loaded.

Front wheel drive is the only option, and as of engines, all trims, besides the GT Turbo get a 147 hp 2-liter 4-cylinder matched to a CVT. The GT-Line Turbo gets a turbocharged 1.6 liter that makes 190 hp and uses an 8-speed automatic.

Other compact sedans to consider are a Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, Kia Forte, Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3, VW Jetta, or Nissan Sentra.
