TROOPS MIND US COPPER MINE - NO SOUND

Early this morning terrorists tried to blow up two of hte three large oil storage tanks belonging to the American owned Cyprus Mine Corporation, one of hte largest copper and suplher mines in europe. One bomb did no damage, the other one which was placed under the edge of the tank merely dented the plates and made a crater two feet across. The security of the mine has remained in the AMerican hands except for the dynamite magazine and an isolated mine head. The mine employs about 1,700 Cypriots, about half Greek and half Turkish Zakos, one of the terrorists now awaiting execution for his part in the Coombe ambush in which Major Coomb's driver was killed waas an employee of the Corporation. Boxes of dynamite are taken out of the mine under escort in quantity as they are required. The mine uses an average of 9,000 sticks of dynamite a day. Obviously if EOKA could get hold of even a small part of this quantity it would be very serious consequences, so every bit is guarded and checked. CU Main shaft. Gordon Highlanders guard an isolated shaft head further up the hill. Mienrs, some of the 1700 make their way to work. Underground scenes as sticks of dynamite are taken out of box, lengths of fuse attached and the mine face prepared for blasting. The copper ore is brought from the face by mechanical means. Mienrs collect their helmet lights preparatory to starting a shift. The oil storage tanks attacked by terrorists. An Employee examines the slight damage to one of the tanks caused by one of the two bombs.
