Welcome to our Spotlight Sessions, a series dedicated to conversations with change-makers and people that have made an impact on the community of people with disabilities.
In this episode, we had the opportunity to speak with Michael Linnington, CEO of Wounded Warriors Project, a nonprofit organization that helps veterans and active duty service members across the United States. Wounded Warriors Project began in 2003 as a small, grassroots effort to honor and empower wounded service members returning home from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Today, in its 20th year, WWP serves more than 240,000 wounded warriors with direct programs in mental health, career counseling, long term rehabilitative care, and advocacy efforts.
Michael shared thoughts on the following topics:
1. The power of community for overcoming social isolation and stigma around disability.
2. Meaningful experiences supporting veterans and their families.
3. How new cutting-edge technologies are helping people with disabilities find independence.
4. The need for and value of an inclusive workforce.
