Nvidia recently released a blog that subtly announced the deprecation of their Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta GPU architectures with version 590 of their driver. As a result, the next driver branch, version 580, will be the last branch supporting the GTX 980 Ti, GTX 1080 Ti, and Titan V (along with all their lower tier siblings like the GTX 1060 and GTX 750Ti (because that was the first Maxwell GPU, even before the 900 series.) The GTX 16 series, which are based on Turing, will still be supported just like their RTX siblings.
Although it is sad to see support end for the GPU I am still using (GTX 1080 Ti) I do have to give Nvidia credit for supporting their GPUs for several years longer than AMD does with their competing GPUs. The GTX 980 Ti was supported with the most recent "game ready" drivers for a whole 10 years, and the 750 Ti for 11, which both still support the most recent drivers for now.
