Conference: Let It Be:The music as a rear window of the mind

"Every musician must know how to play a certain instrument. It takes years of practice and a lot of study throughout that path. But ever wondered how that path came into your life? And for the composers, is there a great argument for the upcoming elements that comes to your mind? And how does that seem to reach the mind of the audience? Music can really reach hidden parts of the mind you didn’t know existed. It even has the power to change the world. The goal of this presentation is to give a psychodynamic perspective of the power of the music in both the composer and the audience, through an example of the inspiration that came to Paul McCartney that led him to compose what came to be one of the most important musical pieces of The Beatles: Let it Be."

BIOGRAPHY (EN)

Mafalda Sousela, 1983, Guimarães | Portugal:

Graduated in Medicine at the University of Minho, she specialized in General Practice and Family Medicine and dedicates part of her professional life to the field of addictions and substance abuse. Alongside her professional activity, she has a taste for art, having occasionally collaborated as an actress, creator, chronicler and film critic. Interested in human behavior and mental processes, it was in her Master's Degree in Psychiatry and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy that she found a perfect convergence of her passions: the mind and creation.

Conferência: LET IT BE: uma janela para a mente do compositor e do ouvinte

"Os músicos, à partida, têm de saber tocar um certo instrumento. Para isso são necessários
anos de prática e muito estudo ao longo de um caminho. Mas já se perguntaram como e
porquê esse caminho entrou nas vossas vidas? E para os compositores, qual o argumento para
os elementos que surgem na sua mente criativa? E como a sua obra penetra na mente dos
seus ouvintes? A música pode realmente alcançar partes ocultas da mente que nem sabíamos
que existiam. Ela tem ainda o poder de mudar o mundo. O objetivo desta apresentação é o de
abordar uma perspetiva psicodinâmica do poder da música, quer no compositor quer no
público, através de um exemplo da inspiração que surgiu a Paul McCartney e que o levou a
compor o que veio a ser uma das mais importantes peças musicais dos The Beatles: Let it Be."


BIOGRAFIA (PT)

Formada em Medicina pela Universidade do Minho, especializou-se em Medicina Geral e
Familiar, dedicando parte da sua vida profissional à área das adições e abuso de substâncias. 
Paralelamente à sua atividade profissional, tem gosto pela arte, tendo colaborado
pontualmente como atriz, criadora, cronista e crítica de cinema. 
Interessada pelo comportamento humano e processos mentais, foi no mestrado em
Psiquiatria e Psicoterapia Psicodinâmica que encontrou a convergência perfeita das suas
paixões: a mente e a criação.

Guimarães International Guitar Festival is organized by the Guimarães Music Society – Guimarães Conservatory, under the artistic direction of Portuguese guitarist Nuno Cachada. It aims to reinforce the classical guitar strand in the musical scene, both in the pedagogical and formative context aiming to foster a new attitude to classical guitar, still little publicized as a soloist instrument.
It is co-funded by the Municipality of Guimarães, EuroStrings and the Creative Europe Programme, from the European Union.
