A great example of karst geology in action in the Brecon Beacons.
Here, a single limestone bed has eroded preferentially, creating a cavern while the stronger beds above continue to support the rock overhead. Over time, sections of the cave roof collapse, leaving large limestone blocks scattered through the river channel.
You can also see calcite veins, joint-controlled erosion, and rounded sandstone cobbles transported from further upstream, showing how different rock units interact within the same river system.
It’s a fantastic reminder that landscapes are shaped not just by erosion, but by the structure and composition of the rock itself.
