About the event:
The Government of Ethiopia, the Government of Slovenia, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Apimondia Federation organised the Second International Forum on Sustainable Beekeeping. The event took place in Jimma Town, Ethiopia, which is located in the heart of the coffee-growing region. Among the attendees were beekeepers from across Africa, as well as numerous NGO representatives and government officials. The event spanned 20-22 May, with the third day dedicated to a field trip to various locations to observe the use of bees in both traditional hives hung in trees and modern frame hives. There was significant discussion about the role of bees and beekeeping in reducing poverty and creating opportunities for youth and women!
