The Lurid Machine is the result of a collaboration between Audio Surplus Effects and heavy noise rock duo Modern Technology. The Lurid Machine is a faithful replication of the unique gain section from bassist/vocalist Chris Clarke’s beloved Peavey Century 200H solid state, extended range musical instrument amplifier which features heavily on the new Modern Technology album 'Conditions of Worth'.

The Peavey Century series amplifiers have become cult classics in recent years thanks to their distinctive distorted tones and crushing volume. The 200H model, designed for use with both bass and guitar, was one of the first to feature Peavey’s unique ‘saturation’ control which they claimed ‘closely duplicates the gain/compression effect of vacuum tubes’. In true Audio Surplus Effects fashion, The Lurid Machine takes this unique circuit even further by adding more gain and saturation for some truly rough and ragged solid state distortion.

The Lurid Machine also features the active low and high EQ controls from the 200H which are capable of a wide range range of cut or boost. There’s a huge amount of bass boost available with no low end loss. Additionally, there is an on board charge pump which provides 18v (+/-9V bipolar) power supply to closely match the headroom of the amp.

Controls:

Level – controls the overall volume

Sat – controls the amount of distortion/saturation. This control is very interactive with the Pre-Gain control and is dependent on how the Pre-Gain control is set.

Pre-Gain – controls the amount of signal being fed into the saturation circuit

High – controls the high frequencies.

Low - controls the low frequencies.
