(EN) Sailing along the multiple channels through Ria Formosa Natural Park near Faro you can admire this city as well as the Airport, Faro Beach and the islands of Culatra (or Farol) and Barreta (or Deserta). Ria Formosa Natural Park is the most important lagoon area in the Algarve region. It is protected by an extensive sandy dune cord next to the sea where the barrier islands of Faro, Barreta, Culatra, Armona and Tavira are located. It has an area of 17.900 hectares over 60 km between the beaches of Garrão and Manta Rota, but a significant part is permanently submerged. The remainder appears during low tide and disappears at high tide. Ria Formosa is a sanctuary of life and biodiversity, where you can find multiple species, some of them in danger of extinction.
