In this video you will learn how to convert meters to feet, and meters to inches.

Welcome to MooMooMath, where we upload a new Math video everyday.
Today I would like to show how to convert meters to feet, and meters to inches.
One conversion you will need is that meter = 3.28084 feet.
Lets go ahead and jump in.
Say we have 12 meters and would like to know how many feet that equals.
I first place what is given over 1, and add a multiplication sign.
Draw another fraction and I always place what I want on top, and what is given on the bottom. Lets recap, I have placed 12 over 1, and placed the unit I want to convert to on top, and placed what I have been given on the bottom. Next I ask " which is larger,meters or feet?"
1 meter = 3.28084. I then just multiply and I'm given 39.3701 feet
Lets complete another.
23 meter = feet
Place 23 over 1,place the unit of measure I'm converting to on top.
Place what is given on the bottom. I want to go to feet, and I've been given meters.
Which is larger? Meter or feet
1 meter equals 3.28084 feet
Meters cancel and 23 x 3.28084 = 75.4593 feet
I know you can just multiply meters times feet, but what if you have 7 meters and you learn the technique, you can convert anything. How many inches does 7 meters equal.
I take what is given and place over 1 and you will see why this technique helps.
I need to go to inches but I don't know how many inches are in a meter. I do know how many meters are in a foot. Place feet on top and meters on the bottom. Which is larger, meters or feet?
I know one meter equals 3.28084 feet.
I then can go to inches. I place the unit I want to convert to on top. What is given on the bottom.
Which is larger? I know 1 foot equals 12 inches.
Lets see what cancels.
Meters cancel,feet cancel, and I'm left with inches.
Next I multiply straight across 7 x 3.28084 x 12 = 272.591 inches
Once you learn the technique you can convert anything.
Quick recap.
Place what is given over 1
Place the unit of measure on top of another fraction.
Place what is given on the bottom.
Ask "which is larger?" Meters or feet, so I will place a 1 by meters.
Cancel my units of measure and multiply straight across, and that gives you your conversion
