"I truly believe that we're better together. When we come across complex problems, thinking about these things in groups and with organizations like this is super important... I want to hear what you say because that will frame how we attack these problems in the future. " - Dr. Vijay Ravindra
Mindee Kunkel shares the first to the final steps of care at Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital.
Dr. Douglas Brockmeyer takes us all the way back to the beginning of Chiari I Malformationo, aka cerebellar tonsillar herniation, and runs through symptomology, surgical indications and procedures, and an update based on preliminary data from a current patient-driven research project, the Chiari Surgical Success Scale.
Dr. Vijay Ravindra looks to the future of Chiari care at Intermountain Primary Children's, or more importantly, personalized care for Chiari. Dr. Ravindra shares how he got involved and interested in neurosurgery and "uncommon problems". Ravindra delves into "topics of debate" among the Chiari I community. Re-operation may not be a failure, but a lack of understanding. Some important studies and interests discussed to improve diagnosis and treatment of Chiari I Malformation include: fluid-mechanics studies, genetic/molecular profiling of all tissue in the craniocervical junction aka "Chiari-omics", minimally invasive or non-surgical interventions to augment CSF flow, and, of course, a very critical piece, patient-reported outcomes or more simply, do you feel better?
