As a 2020 snapshot of Zahana’s reforestation and improved cook stove activities, this video was produced to participate in a virtual event organized by the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, New York, USA. We are grateful for the Seneca Park Zoo’s support of our reforestation efforts.
In 2019 we launched our most ambitious project to date: improved cook stoves. We teamed up with a group from the Lycee Technique et Professionnelle Tsiroanomandidy in Madagascar. The team developed and improved cook stove built exclusively with locally available resources, where nothing needs to be bought from the outside. Building your own cook stove is taught in hands-on workshops. One of the participants summarized it beautifully and said: firewood that lasted for a week now lasts for 4, if you use an improved cook stove. Reducing the need for firewood, protects trees more than anything else.
