Описание: The major parties spend up big during election campaigns - but only because they’ve taken big donations.

Electoral funding was allegedly introduced to help eliminate political donations - but the truth is it never worked.

Legislative changes in 2019 only allow political parties to claim money they’ve spent on an election. This now means parties cannot profit from any federal election.

In 2019, candidates and political parties claimed $68,635,245.75 in electoral funding from the Australian Electoral Commission.

Candidates and parties are only eligible to claim electoral funding if they achieve 4% of the primary vote or more.

Note: A claim cannot exceed the money spent on their campaign. A primary vote (Number 1 in the box) is worth $2.914.
