• Minimum basis for paper development process.
Pourposes
Our half-day will be intense: practical tests and little chat. We will repeat by modern means the path of the pioneers of photography, when they were still unable to take pictures on film or glass plates and only used silver halide paper. We take the example of two true geniuses: the Frenchman Hippolyte Bayard, who experimented with taking photographs on positive paper in a single copy, or the Englishman Henry Fox Talbot, who used the negative-positive process to make multiple copies. Each of the participants - when the tests are done - will decide which procedure will be more enjoyable or interesting to repeat on their own or abandon forever...
Note
The participants must wear clothing and shoes that are expendable or of little importance, given the possibility of stains or inadvertent splashes of chemical products, those who want to have a little fun can bring vintage clothing accessories, long skirts, strange hats, an antique umbrella, bows and ribbons, a pipe or large cigar, an elegant dress from times gone by, a shirt full of frills, and other things to simulate a photographic situation from a century ago (but without problems if you are wrong by a few decades or if it seems like a carnival situation ;-)
Gabriele Coassin
an artisan photographer and reporter in his youth, was included in the first Bolaffi volume/catalogue of Italian photographers; later, he became an awarded filmmaker and author of professional texts, teaching at Italian universities and academies. Now, in retirement, he has returned to his old photographic passion, tirelessly experimenting with alchemy to be reproduced in targeted workshops or educational-experiential digital detox courses for new generations, leading to the rediscovery of the slow manual processes of Proto-Photography and ancient pre-cinema practices.
