Flightgear variometer to Taranis X9D via extremely convoluted methods

So here is the "signal path" of the variometer data:
1. Python script gets vario data from Flightgear internal webserver JSON API
2. Python script writes it into a unix named pipe.
3. c++ app reads the data from the named pipe.
4. c++ app communicates with FrSky X8R receiver using a serial port and sends the vario data to it.
5. X8R sends the variometer data the Taranis X9D transmitter
6. X9D makes beeping noises.
Seriously, this is otherwise pretty much pointless, but doing it helped me understand the FrSky S.PORT telemetry protocol.
