This is a very famous intermezzo by Italian composer Pietro Mascagni who is known by his operas from his opera Cavalleria Rusticana which has been also adapted in films for serval times.
Gentle attacks (or even without attack) on the first note of the phrases would give a sweeter sense to the music and make sure all dynamics are well observed. The arranger indicates a quarter equals 60 which is a more moving tempo and considering it is an exam piece for grade 5, a more moving pace might help breath control for younger players. There are slower versions available but make sure intonation and phrases are in good shape!
