The UAE Cabinet has approved new rules that prohibit children under 15 from creating or using social media accounts. The resolution also requires platforms to introduce stronger age verification systems and enhanced protections for teenage users.

Parents will not be able to override the restrictions through consent, while social media companies will be required to remove underage accounts and limit risks for users aged 15 and 16.

Platforms have up to 12 months to comply with the new regulations.
